Mark Hoban was re-elected as the Member of Parliament for Fareham in May 2005.

In November 2003,Mark was appointed the Shadow Schools Minister and retained this post after the 2005 General Election. Prior to November 2003, he was an Opposition Whip.

Since being elected to parliament in 2001, Mark has served as a member of the Select Committee on Science and Technology and as secretary to the Conservative Health Policy Review Committee.

Mark lives in Locks Heath with his wife Fiona. They married in August 1994. Fiona works for the Corporation of London, which is the local authority for London's financial centre.

His involvement in politics started in 1980, when he joined the Conservative Party in the North East of England. He first stood for parliament in 1997 in South Shields.

Mark was born and brought up in the North East of England. He attended a comprehensive school in Durham and graduated with a degree in economics from the London School of Economics.

Mark is a Chartered Accountant. He worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers and its predecessor firms between 1985 and 2001.

Outside politics, Mark is a dab hand in the kitchen. He also enjoys reading and travel, particularly to France.
